The team at My-Prompt is, quite simply, passionate about neurodiversity. We enjoy nothing more than supporting neurodivergent individuals and developing successful strategies to assist impaired executive function. We value the importance of listening and learning from those we support.
Over the years, we’ve found that whilst assistive technology is often used in the early days, it is regularly abandoned. One of the reasons for this is best summed up by a student studying Art and Design at Edinburgh University. She told us . . .
“I don’t want to use assistive technology when I have to put more into it than I get out of it.”
This was a statement we kept returning to as we designed My-Prompt. We wanted an app that wouldn’t just support executive dysfunction but would also be easy to use. It needed to be ‘immediate’, with as many features as possible being just one click away.
All of the team at My-Prompt share a keen interest in ADHD and Autism. The majority of us are neurodiverse and have found that this is a positive advantage when it comes to supporting our students and clients. We don’t just understand neurodivergence, we live it.
This means that when you access our app and our coaching materials you can be assured that we have not only drawn from years of supporting individuals who are neurodiverse, but we have also drawn from our own experience.
It was important that the app we designed would help Users to become more independent and feel empowered. We know that executive dysfunction is experienced by the majority of individuals who are neurodiverse and those with mental health conditions. We also know that the most effective interventions can be non-medical. My-Prompt has been designed to improvement in the key areas of activation, focus, effort, emotion, memory, and action.
Many of our Users experience Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria which means being disproportionally affected by perceived criticism and rejection. This is why we decided to make My-Prompt wholly positive. Our My-Prompt emoji will be there to celebrate all your successes. We will not highlight missed targets, instead we will highlight every single achievement. Success breeds success and we will encourage you to keep building and keep achieving.
”I went through school without anyone understanding how dyspraxia affects me, especially my mental health. My specialist understands my anxiety and we’re working on confidence building strategies. We’ve used My Motivation on the app so I get positive affirmations each day. My Goals is really good as it breaks down what I need to do into small steps and I use the traffic lights to prioritise what needs to be done first. I also like that the app synchs with my own calendar.”
”When my study skills tutor asked me to try My-Prompt I wasn’t sure at first as I don’t use assistive technology. I’ve got an exam coming up so we did a revision session. My tutor showed me why the usual revision methods won’t work for me because I’m neurodiverse. The memory walk she taught me has been a life changer. I’m using it along with the app’s flash cards and for the first time ever I can feel things actually going into my mind and sticking.”
”I’m getting so much more done now that every time I complete a task I get a reward. I also love seeing what I’ve done pop up on my timeline.”
”What I really like about My Prompt is that it’s easy to use but it’s also really quick to do what you want. It’s the only AT I’ve used that I haven’t given up on.”
”I have ADHD and I struggle to remember things. I love that I can ask the My-Prompt chick to give me reminders. The cost/value tool my specialist showed me is brilliant and I use it to show me what I should be working on. I use the pomodoro a lot too as it helps me to go into my hyperfocus instead of getting distracted. For the first time I feel like my ADHD is under control and I can get things done.”
